How to protect yourself from a gift card scam

There are several things that you need to take note when it comes to gift card scams. The best part of all, it can be really easy for you. Just follow these simple tips.

1. If you are planning to buy gift cards for yourself or loved ones, only buy them directly from the stores or from the retailer's website. It may be cheaper elsewhere, but you do not really know what is in. If you plan to buy it online, make sure it's secure.

2. If you see a card has been tampered with, then don't buy that for obvious reasons. This could be a scratched card or if the PIN is revealing.

3. Refrain from buying them on auction sites. Some people might want to sell them off cheaply because they no longer need them, or just want to exchange for some cash. However, there are many scams out there, and some of these cards could have been stolen or even counterfeit. Your best bet would be to play it safe.
